Founded in 1291
Switzerland was founded on August 1, 1291, when the three cantons of Uri, Schwyz, and Unterwalden formed the Swiss Confederation. This makes Switzerland over 730 years old. The country gradually expanded over time, incorporating more cantons and evolving into the modern nation-state it is today.
